Any worry about leakages?

Fugitive emissions are emissions of gases or vapors from pressurized equipment due to leaks. As well as the economic cost of lost commodities, fugitive emissions contribute to air pollution and climate change. Fugitive emissions by petrochemical industries present high risks and hazards. Leaks from pressurized process equipment generally occur through valves, pipe connections, mechanical seals, or related equipment. Fugitive Emissions / leaks?

The Clean Air Act in USA The Clean Air Act is a United States federal law designed to control air pollution on a national level. (major amendment signed in 1990) “The Act requires industrial facilities to implement a Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program to monitor and audit a facility's fugitive emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC). The program is intended to identify and repair components such as valves, pumps, compressors, flanges, connectors and other components that may be leaking. These components are the main source of the fugitive VOC emissions.”

Innovation for safety Fugitive Emission Monitoring

Fugitive Emission Monitoring increases highly the safety of the plant (people & environment) Immediate Alarm for a quick intervention Reduced exposure of personnel to a potentially deadly chemical Easy implementation on existing valves, without additional cabling

1 Packing status & FEM

How to avoid Valve packing leakages ?

FOXBORO ECKARDT Positioner Packing status monitoring Fugitive Emission Monitoring Available as a standard in all smart positioners!

Packing status monitoring Cycles & Strokes counters PTFE Packing Graphite Packing Standard bonnet of a control valve Erosion of the packing increases with the valve’s operation

Packing status monitoring Cycles & Strokes counters Tightness First Emission from Packing Number of cycle/stroke Packing is designed for a certain amount of cycle

Packing status monitoring Cycles & Strokes counters Cycle = small movements Stroke = full strokes movement

Packing status monitoring Cycles & Strokes counters Plan of maintenance by setting alarms the Cycles & Strokes counters

Fugitive Emission Monitoring Bellows seal Bellows seal bonnet is used for dangerous medium, potentially fatal for people and environment  Chemical industries  Pharmaceutical  …

Fugitive Emission Monitoring Bellows seal Number of cycle/stroke Packing PTFE Tightness First Emission from Packing Bellows Tightness Metallic bellows seal are used to keep a constant maximum tightness but… one crack of the bellows is fatal  Need of accurate follow-up Secondary gland packing seal Bonnet Metallic bellows Rising spindle Constant tightness

Fugitive Emission Monitoring Bellows seal Number of cycle/stroke Bellows Tightness Cracks happen in the bellows with no warning sign and the consequences can be extremely damaging. Statistically every manufacturer knows more or less the life time of bellows. However pressure and temperature of the medium can impact this life time. Metallic bellows seal are used to keep a constant maximum tightness But one crack is fatal  Need of accurate follow-up Secondary gland packing seal Bonnet Metallic bellows Rising spindle

Secondary gland packing seal Fugitive Emission Monitoring Pressure in the bonnet The only effective monitoring is to put under control the pressure inside the bonnet. Under process pressure No pressure / pressure only in case of leak

Fugitive Emission Monitoring Our solution HART or PROFIBUS PA or FF H1 Binary input Pressure Switch Gauges Immediate feedback No human intervention on site

Features ATEX certified (IS and EP), FM (EP) 2 wires technology (HART, FF H1 or PROFIBUS PA) No need of external supply (supply to positioner) Immediate remote (DCS) alarm for a quick intervention Immediate drive to fail safe position for critical control valve Solution patented by Foxboro US 6,112,638

3 How to order & Sum Up

Standard SRD991 / SRD960 with option B (binary input) is needed SRD991-xxB SRD960-xxB Eventually we can offer also some pressure switch LEXG-DS1 (pressure switch made by WIKA) Max pressure 30 bar Connection ¼ NPT But any pressure switch with dry contact should be OK Fugitive Emission Monitoring… …How to order

Fugitive Emission Monitoring … …Sum Up ATEX certified (IS and EP), FM (EP) No need of external supply (supply to positioner) Solution patented by Foxboro US 6,112,638 Our solution is unique, no competitor today can offer in 2 wires technology Solution is “price competitive”, a standard SRD991 with option B (binary input) is needed

Fugitive Emission Monitoring increases highly the safety of the plant (people & environment) Immediate Alarm for a quick intervention Reduced exposure of personnel to a potentially deadly chemical Easy implementation on existing valves, without additional cabling

Fugitive Emission Monitoring You’d better use it !
