Seite 3 Article 12 Grundgesetz [Occupational freedom] ▬ (1) All Germans shall have the right freely to choose their occupation or profession, their place of work and their place of training. The practice of an occupation or profession may be regulated by or pursuant to a law. ▬ (2) No person may be required to perform work of a particular kind except within the framework of a traditional duty of community service that applies generally and equally to all. ▬ (3) Forced labour may be imposed only on persons deprived of their liberty by the judgment of a court. Rules and Regulations – The Basic Law The German Constitution grants occupational freedom to everyone

Seite 4 Social Act/Social Security Code (Sozialgesetzbuch, part III) § 30 Career Guidance (Berufsberatung): Career Guidance means providing information and advice regarding ▬ the occupational choice, the career development and the change of career ▬ labor market trends und changes within professions ▬ participation in occupational trainings, ▬ the search for dual trainings and employment ▬ financial support to facilitate integration into the labor market ▬ issues of the career advancement and the formal education if they are relevant to the occupational choice or the professional training Rules and Regulations – Social Act

Seite 5 § 33 Berufsorientierung The PES (Agentur für Arbeit) is forced to provide orientation regarding professions in order to ▬ prepare young people and adults for their occupational choice ▬ inform those looking for vocational trainings or employment and those who would like to change their career too ▬ inform employers as well Professional Orientation should provide thorough and detailed information on requirements and prospects of occupations and and the latest labor market trends. Seite 6 Career counselling usually takes place ▬ in one-on-one meetings with a person in search of advice and the careers advisor in the local Job Center ▬ in events organised for groups of students at schools, high schools and universities ▬ during career fairs nationwide ▬ by conversation over the telephone or by using video chats with clients career counselling Additionally there is a lot of information regarding professions and the labor market which is provided online and spread by brochures available at information centers of each local job center (BIZ).
