2. About the JCST An intercollegiate body working on behalf of the 4 Surgical Royal Colleges of the UK and Ireland Our mission: To develop, promote and ensure the highest possible standards of surgical training for the benefit of patients.

What we do – in brief Enrol trainees, monitor their progress, provide advice, make certification recommendations to the regulator(s) Develop the curriculum for 10 surgical specialties, core surgical training and professional and leadership skills – parent body for the ISCP Work to measure and improve the quality of training Support the General Medical Council’s (GMC’s) “equivalence” process for specialist registration – CESR Support national selection, workforce planning and policy development processes
