2 Dumont POE One of nine permanent ports Built in 1975 East and West Bound Located 38 miles west of Denver on I-70, near the I-70/US 40 Junction Employs 14 full time officers 3 officers staff the mobile unit 24/7 Operation

3 The day begins - posting the colors

7 POE Business System Trucks can continue to move across the scales and one truck can be cleared every 40 seconds. Officers enter last 8 digits of VIN Familiarity with companies and types of loads – Beco Truck – mail hauler – General Freight (LTL) haulers – Fuel haulers

8 Colorado POE Officer Scope of Authority Article 8 of Title 42, Colorado Revised Statutes Law enforcement officers with specific authority to “restrain and detain” while enforcing size and weight restrictions, permitting, commercial motor carrier registration, 72 hour permits (temporary registration), special revocable permits, harvest permits, collection of specific ownership tax on special mobile machinery, dyed fuel violations, health and brand paperwork. Mandated to operate 365/24/7

11 In the “hot seat” Process of Elimination “POE” – determine what type of equipment is coming across the scale, for example: – Empty flat bed No weight issues – concentrate on data on screen of POE Business System Check for mud flap violations as it crosses scale – Truck Tractor Semi Trailer Combination No length limit – eliminate length issues, look for other dimension violations (width, height).

13 Mid-morning 9:45 a.m. – Things get busy 3 drivers called into Port to check documents – Insurance – Registration – Proper Permits Trucks continue to cross scale This is where the multi-tasking really comes in
