3 Will Shakespeare not only has double sold his next play but is bereft of ideas to complete the play. He is in search of his muse, but all attempts fail him until he meets the beautiful Viola. She loves the theatre and wants to take to the stage but only men can be actors. She is also a great admirer of Shakespeare’s works. Dressing as a man and going by the name of Kent, Viola auditions and is ideal for a part in his next play. He sees through her disguise and they begin a love affair, but he is already married and she has been promised to the Lord Wessex.

5 As Shakespeare's writer's block is introduced, he is seen crumpling balls of paper and throwing them around his room. They land near props which represent scenes in his several plays: an open chest (The Merchant of Venice).
