2 Objectives of the Session Students are expected to: -skim texts for specific information. -get the meaning of new words. -answer comprehension questions.

4 New Words The wordm.Example Sentence amputate يبتر Her leg had to be amputated at the knee. determined مصمم Ali was determined to fulfill his dreams. qualify يتأهل The swimmer has been qualified for the final. disabled معاق He competed in an able-bodied swimmers’ final. thrilled مبتهج She was thrilled when she recovered from the operation. shark سمكة القرش She lost an arm in a shark attack. A tiger shark attacked her and tore of her left arm. championship بطولات She finished 5 th at the National Surfing Championship.

5 Reading: Never give up, p.47? b-Read the 2 paragraphs about the two women and answer the questions about each one: 1- How did she lose a limb? 2- When did she start her sport again? 3- How did she feel? 4- What has she achieved since then? 5- How does she see here future?

6 NatalieBethany She lost her leg in a road accident. She lost her arm in a shark attack. She started her sport after 3 months of the accident. She started her sport as soon as she left hospital. She was thrilled and delighted. She was so happy. She qualified for the final at the Commonwealth Game. She finished the 5 th at the National Surfing Championship. She hope to swim faster than she did before the accident. She accepted that she will never be world champion.

7 After reading E- What have the two women got in common? What is different about them? SimilaritiesDifference They are both sportswomen who excelled in water sports. Natalie still wants to swim faster than before she had the accident. They both lost a limb, but the competed against able-bodied people. Bethany has accepted that she will never fulfill her dream to become a champion.
