Protecting my money How can we keep our money safe?  Keep it in a safe place at home  Open a savings account  Keep track of what we have and what we spend  Keep details of our accounts secure  Don’t let anyone else know our password or PIN  Don’t give private information about ourselves to just anybody Avoid SCAMS - be aware that people might try to trick us into giving them access to our money or details about ourselves so they can steal our money.

Scams A scam is a dishonest scheme designed to con you out of your cash Scams can trick people to give out personal information which would then allow someone to steal your identity and pretend to be you for dishonest purposes

Types of scams Scams can arrive by post, phone call, text message or email, or from someone coming to your home… Doorstep selling scams Prize draws and foreign lottery scams Miracle health cures and subscription traps Phishing – emails Vishing – phone calls Fake websites

Risks and emotions It’s very distressing to be caught out by a scam… How do you think you might feel if someone had tricked you and taken your money? What might be the consequences of losing money in this way? It’s important to report scams to try and stop the scammer striking again

Passwords Used for all sorts of accounts e.g. social networking sites, internet banking and using cash machines. Passwords and PIN’s protect us and help us keep our money and information safe. If we give these to other people they will be able to access our accounts and take our money or access our personal files.

Creating a password… Think of a memorable phrase e.g. I love to play football after school Convert this to just letters e.g. ILTPFAS Change every other letter to lowercase e.g. IlTpFaS Now use numbers and special characters so if you have a T then put a 2 immediately after it e.g. IlT2pF£aS*
