CACI Proprietary Information | Date 1 Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4 Upgrade Name: Semarria Rosemond Title: Systems Analyst, Lead Date: December 8, 2011

CACI Proprietary Information | Date 2 2 Installing Sybase ASE 15.0.3 on Windows Server 2003  Installing Sybase ASE for Windows Server is relatively simple.  It employs a Graphical User Interface (GUI) setup program, which makes the installation easy to understand, and automates most functions.  The setup program installs Sybase ASE software and utilities.  After the upgrade there will be a need to customize the setup to a configuration specific to PD².  Once these steps have been completed, the database is ready to be upgraded to PD2 v4.2 Increment 2 SR13.

CACI Proprietary Information | Date 3 3 Installing Sybase ASE 15.0.3 on Windows Server 2003  3.1 Perform a Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4 Installation on Windows Server 2003 Platforms 3.1.1 Close All Applications −Ensure that the current session is the only Windows session on the database server. −Ensure that all applications are closed on the database server, especially the Sybase tools (e.g., isql, Sybase Central, Interactive SQL). −Use Windows Task Manager to confirm that dbisql.exe and scjview.exe are not present in the Processes tab

CACI Proprietary Information | Date 4 4 Installing Sybase ASE 15.0.3 on Windows Server 2003  3.1 Perform a Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4 Installation on Windows Server 2003 Platforms 3.1.2 Before the Installation −The system requirements for the Adaptive Server are listed below. −Note: The fully qualified server name (e.g., dbserver.site.mil) of the database server is required during the installation process. Verify that Worksheet Item #1 contains this information.

CACI Proprietary Information | Date 5 5 Installing Sybase ASE 15.0.3 on Windows Server 2003  3.1 Perform a Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4 Installation on Windows Server 2003 Platforms 3.1.2 Before the Installation −A minimum of 2 GB of free space on the installation drive is needed to install Sybase ASE software. −Verify that TCP/IP is correctly installed by “pinging” a fully qualified host name (e.g., the default gateway for the server, or pd2.caci.com).

CACI Proprietary Information | Date 6 6 Installing Sybase ASE 15.0.3 on Windows Server 2003  3.1 Perform a Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4 Installation on Windows Server 2003 Platforms 3.1.2 Before the Installation −If more than 1024MB of RAM is to be assigned to the Sybase ASE 15.0.3 and the Windows operating system is 32-bit, it is critical that the Windows operating system can address 3GB of user-mode memory space. −Otherwise the Sybase ASE 15.0.3 Adaptive Server will fail to start when more than 1024MB of RAM is assigned. −This does not apply to Windows 64-bit.

CACI Proprietary Information | Date 7 7 Installing Sybase ASE 15.0.3 on Windows Server 2003  3.1 Perform a Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4 Installation on Windows Server 2003 Platforms 3.1.2 Before the Installation −Windows Server 2003 32-bit: the file “boot.ini” must have the /3GB switch enabled. −Consult the Microsoft Knowledge Base regarding large memory support and setting the /3GB switch (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system/platform/server/PAE/P AEmem.mspx). −The database server machine must be rebooted after the update.

Additional Information 8.1 Clean Up Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4 Installer Files −After successful installations of Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4, the installation files can be removed. −Remove directory ase1503esd4 in the temporary directory (Worksheet Item #21) on the database server (Worksheet Item #1).

CACI Proprietary Information | Date 76 Installing Sybase ASE 15.0.3 on Windows Server 2003  8. Additional Information 8.2 Update Statistics −The Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4 query optimizer uses the statistics to determine the best query plan. −Outdated statistics could result in suboptimal performance in the database server. −To optimize query performance in Sybase ASE 15.0.3 ESD#4, updating statistics is strongly recommended. −The update statistics command is executed per table. The syntax is: update index statistics on go −where is a PD² table. All audit tables (table names begin with “z” or end with “_audit”) can be excluded, except tables: −clin_fund_audit −dsk_obj_audit −line_item_audit −delivery_item_audit (If Adapter is installed)

CACI Proprietary Information | Date 77 Installing Sybase ASE 15.0.3 on Windows Server 2003  8. Additional Information 8.2 Update Statistics −The statistics should be updated during the non-business hours to reduce the impact to the system users. −Sites with large databases should plan on breaking the updates into batches. −Large tables with many indexes may take hours to complete the statistics updates.
