11 Hogan Fountain Master Plan 21 May 2009 User Survey Results: Demographics 26 park visitors responded to the Hogan Fountain Area survey. Of the respondents: 64% are male; 36% are female 42% visit the Hogan Fountain Area 1-3 times per week 62% stay for 1 hour or less; 27% stay 1-3 hours 42% visit between 4pm - 7pm; 35% between noon - 4pm 46% walk to the park; 46% travel by car 19% within a 15 minute walk; 23% live within a 15-30 minute walk; 46% do not live within walking distance 56% come to the area alone; 50% with friends; 46% with family (all that apply Park user ages: 12% are 17-24, 12% are 25-35, 32% are 36- 45, 40% are 46-64 Age ranges of children are: 20% toddler 1-3 years; 30% 3-5 years; 50% 5 -7 years; 40% 7-12 years; (all that apply)

(20 Respondents) Top Responses: Traffic/Too Many Cars (3, 15%) Restrooms (3, 15%) Fountain/Pavement Around Fountain (3, 15%) Litter/Unclean/Wear & Tear (3, 15%) “Graffiti and vandalism, litter. Clearly, this area is used a lot -- which is good -- but the wear and tear show.” -Survey Respondent “The look of the pavilion, although certainly an ‘icon,’ is somewhat dated. However, its design has been very serviceable -- ability to cook, move tables, stay cool in summer, dry in rain. I love the fountain itself -- it is beautiful and historically significant.” - Survey Respondent

If uses are tailored to the capacity of the site (not such big gatherings that cars are parked everywhere), then this will continue to be a great park for Louisville.” - Survey Respondent

18 Hogan Fountain Master Plan 21 May 2009 Project Issues: Drainage & Erosion Concentrated Use Impacted Road Edge Drainage and runoff impacts the road edges and causes erosion and water quality problems The concentrated use in one area causes soil compaction, erosion, dusty and muddy conditions, and tree decline Numerous swales and gullies impact the slopes and soils causing erosion

19 Hogan Fountain Master Plan 21 May 2009 Project Issues: Parking & Circulation Parking Lot Parking Lay -By Lay Parking and traffic conflicts are a big problem on nice days when use is high Pedestrian / vehicular conflicts are frequent for users crossing the road in these areas

20 Hogan Fountain Master Plan 21 May 2009 Project Issues: Existing Features Shelter Hogan Fountain Hogan Fountain location is good, but is surrounded by unpleasant asphalt The existing shelter is deteriorating and is not compatible with the historic character of the park The Restroom is not compatible with the historic character of the park and is uninviting The softball field as well as the area to the south is not heavily used The proximity of the existing basketball court to the other facilities is problematic The overhead power line is unsightly and causes tree damage Restroom Basket ball Softball

21 Hogan Fountain Master Plan 21 May 2009 Project Issues: Trail System Rogue Trails Multi-Use Trails Hiking Trails The trailhead needs better definition and signage Needed improvements to trail system : Reduce erosion Long term management Connect to park trail system The many rogue trails impact the fragile slopes, soils, and plants
