1 Markeaton Park Restoration Project What the project will do Restore and transform this important and much loved historic park Physical enhancements will restore historic buildings, gardens and parkland and provide new facilities Improve and provide more park events and activities Improve the park's management and maintenance operations and secure a Green Flag Award

2 How much will it cost? £3.4 million project £2.5 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and BIG Council providing S106, capital, increased revenue on maintenance In kind contributions from volunteers Still need to find £70,000 over next five years

5 Project components Events and Activities Various on going from summer 2013 to the end of 2017 Mundy Play Centre New play area and footpaths Historic Core Restoration and conversion of buildings, courtyard improvements, main entrance and walled garden, interpretation of hall foundations, restoration of historic gardens Main Park Restoration of historic parkland, new entrances and footpaths, sports courts and interpretation

6 Masterplan Paths and entrances New path from Mundy Play Centre car park to rest of the park New lake side footpath and cycle route Improved entrances on A52 Main carriageway resurfaced Reinstate main entrance gates New paths across and around the park

7 Masterplan New facilities New equipped play area New lake side picnic areas New information signage New tennis and ball court

8 Masterplan Planting and landscape management Manage Aldercar Wood and watercourses Management of woodland belts Create new wildflower meadows Restore the parkland landscape by removing badly located trees and replanting with native species Reduce size of pitch and putt and restore ridge and furrow

9 Historic core - gardens Remove the tennis courts and restore as lawn Restore entrance gates, resurface drive and replant herbaceous border Restore and replant the Rose Garden Excavate and interpret the hall remains Restore the portico Restore the Bothy and boundary walls Restore the Terrace Garden and reinstate the Nurembourg Fountain Restore and replant the Pleasure Gardens
