7 Do you feel nurse satisfaction at work reflects patient outcome? Yes – everyone’s response  “Happy patient = happy nurse” (BSN)  If unhappy, attitude reflects that which patients are able to pick up on (RN)  “Interaction is not the same if not happy. It effects the relationship with the patient” (Administrator)  “If not having a positive attitude, you won’t do the best you can” (Doctorate)

8 Reason’s for a decline in job satisfaction Doctor’s not respecting nurses (OB) Unfairness(OB, Med-Surg, ER) Taken advantage of (Med-Surg) Favoritism (Med- Surg) Patient to nurse ratio (Med –Surg, OB) Wage discrepancy (Med –Surg) EMAR implementation (Med-Surg) Co-worker Attitudes (Med-Surg, OB, ER) Conflicts with family (Administration) Responsibilities (Administration) Too many demands at once (Doctorate) Unhappy patients/customers (Doctorate) Hours (Med-Surg)

10 Department was criticized-How was it handled? In General-Evaluate situation to see what sent on and also look at both sides Sometimes not able to control a situation-Evaluate to see what could be done differently and delegate duties more appropriately Criticized on care-Listen to what they have to say and investigate/staff meeting Not everyone is perfect-Work as a team Labeling issue on medication-quit giving liquid form and now is capsule Faculty upset that 2 potlucks in weeks-listened to complaints and combined to 1 potluck Press Ganey (survey) to evaluate for possible changes Critized by physician d/t precipitous birth-went to upper management, copied papers, and stated facts on charting

11 With high demand for nurses, will job satisfaction be compromised in the future? 7 - yes 1 – (RN) 1 – Undecided “Cares towards patients will change- Admission will be faster and discharges will to sooner” More outpatient care (home care) Unrespected field by some people=burnt out nurses Acuity level will change “It’s already changed from years ago. It’s only going to get tougher” “Generation now feel they are entitled to more, but work less” No-”It has to do with the underlying values of the facility you work for”
