4 ALICANTE Objectives (1/2)  Definition and specification of a new functional architecture to make real the concept of networked Media Ecosystem based on:  Coupling “Virtual Content-Aware Networking” and “Network Aware Applications and Services”  New Virtual Home-Box layer  Design, implementation, validation and integration of :  Full User Environment, seamlessly interacting with the underlying layers, able to satisfy the End-User’s experience  Complete and flexible Service Environment, based on cooperation between the traditional Service Providers and End-Users (through their HBs):  Virtual CAN layer, multiple-domain, multi-provider, unicast-multicast capable of offering customisable VCANs and QoS to the SP and HBs:  MANE – new element and advanced management  Two level (from hierarchical point of view) system to fully support adaptation for the multimedia flow delivery over multi-domains  Multi-layered monitoring solution at all defined levels: User, Service, Home-Box, CAN  IP network support for VCANs based on MPLS/Diffserv  Elaboration of a flexible business model:  Including various roles that business entities can have in real deployments  Enriching the roles that the EUs might play – w.r.t current business models  To be exploited as strategic marketing approach of the ALICANTE architecture and achievements Trento, FMN Cluster Meeting (March 14, 2011) 4 ALICANTE project in a nutshell

5 ALICANTE Progress (1/2) 1 st year just finished, 2 years left WP2: Services and Architecture Definition and Specification  Finished (M08): Definition and specification phase finalized WP3: User Environment  Intermediate version of User Profile Modeling based on Markup Scheme Model (XML Schema) and existing standards (MPEG, UPnP), ongoing elaboration on ontology-based model.  Design and Implementation of a User Profile framework centrally managed by HB for multi-terminals/users/services  Implementation of QoS monitoring tools and QoE estimator and their integration into User Profile Management framework. WP4: Home-Box layer  Definition and specification of the HB architecture and services:  User login, context-aware service discovery, delivery and adaptation (initial version)  Design and implementation of HB services related components and their interfaces with WP3 and WP5:  Communication/signaling agents, session management, adaptation and streaming components (initial version) WP5: Service Environment  Media service classification, Content Awareness Transport Information (CATI) specification and SLA (SP CAN, SP EU) definition  Service management functional specification  SP/CP implementation specification including existing media services (e.g. VoD), basic media services (e.g. Push content service) and composed services (e.g. Live Portal and VCIS)  High level Service Composition design  Service Registry design, specification and implementation on going Trento, FMN Cluster Meeting (March 14, 2011) 5
