Unit Rates as Slope Math 8: Unit 3 Mrs. Tyrpak

Differences in Definitions

Applying Unit Rates Blank videotapes can be purchased in packages of 3 for $4.99, or 10 for $15.49. Which is the better buy?

Linear Equations A linear equation is an equation whose solutions fall on a line in a coordinate plane. We will look at one characteristic of a linear equation today…the slope.

This can be viewed as a ratio with a unit rate. Let’s view slope from an experiment point of view. Let’s graph how high the water gets after 1 cup of water is added to a vase for a total of 5 cups.

Graph Let the horizontal change represent the number of cups added, and the vertical change represent the height of the water.

Determine the slope: Distance traveled by a train Time (Minutes) 10203040 Distance (Miles) 255075100

Describe Karen’s Marathon

Keep up the GREAT work! Don’t forget to complete your practice and application worksheets. We are beginning to work more algebraically so check your work when possible
