3 Works completed to date from Fostering Long Term Initiatives in Ports (FLIP) project Urban Delivery Whitstable Harbour South Quay – Soft Market Testing – December 2014 (investigate potential demand for new commercial premises) Atkins Technical study for energy management and efficiency at Whitstable Harbour (small scale renewable energy solutions using port infrastructure) CCC Engineers Changing Places Toilets (national awards) Reconstruction of South Quay wall (EA grant funding) New embarkation facilities (Board Funding) South Quay community market (Tender) Partnership arrangements and cost savings on dredging. (CCC) New LED low carbon quay lighting Harbour waste management plan - recycling facilities for energy

6 Zone A (Aggregates) The East Quay Harbour dependent business, long lease with secure revenue stream. Local employment directly and indirectly. Large site currently designated for Waste & Minerals. (KCC) New embarkation facilities with pontoon and gangway to improve day charter trips and visitor attraction. East Quay

7 Zone B (commercial, light industry) The West Quay Fishing operations Dedicated commercial fishermen’s berth and compound area Davit cranes, Cold Storage, Ice making and Freezer facilities Incorporate renewable energy technologies for micro generation. Boat servicing - West side Slipway launching cradle Maintain local employment harbour culture and traditions Maritime Heritage Centre  Education, nautical training, event space, visitor information  Maritime Heritage, marine conservation and discovery, historic vessel restoration, renewable technology development, coastal wildlife exploration  Heritage cruise vessels - Thames Estuary Waverley, Balmoral, Pocha Hontas West Quay

8 The former Angling Club Extend and Refurbish ? – current architectural features have to be kept Complete redevelopment of the site? -increase floor area over 3 storeys - weatherboard large glazed areas, projecting balconies, high level viewing areas Potential Uses ? Housing Retail Art studios, creative enterprise units, photographic & audio Exhibition space and cultural centre for local artists Diverse restaurants, quayside café culture, wine and craft ale bars. Independent cinema Steam Packet Inn c.1914 Low architectural value Prominent zone location Poor structural condition Poor layout of floor space.

9 The South Quay Shed Remodel - Repurpose ? Unsightly industrial building - prime location, sub frame structurally sound (facelift Whitstable style) Versatile structure- thermally efficient low cost building(s) created within internal space, mezzanine floor - small cinema South facing roof- independently funded micro generation site (sustainable development low carbon planning principle) Demolition and Redevelop ? Complete redevelopment in conjunction with the Angling Club (Large 1500m2 overall)
