Your Problem statement (really a question). Ex. Which fertilizer will grow plants the tallest, brand x or y? Everything in red font is an example. You can include all black titles.

Research- add your research paper at this spot or include 4-10 bullets of information Ex. Of research bullets All plants need nitrogen and phosphorous Brand X has 59% nitrogen, 13% phosphorus Brand y has 20% nitrogen 12% phosphorus

Hypothesis If Brand X &Y are used as fertilizers then Brand X will grow plants the tallest. Why did I decide this? I’ve used my research to decide that brand X is better because it has more N and P. This hypothesis is in the If/then format.

Materials 45 kidney beans 45 paper cups 4 gallons of water Sun lamp Fertilizer brand X Fertilizer brand Y 5 lb. bag potting soil Etc.

Procedure 1. label 15 cups X, 15 cups Y, 15 cups C 2. Add 6 cm of Potting soil into each cup 3. Place 1 kidney bean in each cup, add one more cm of soil. 4. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of fertilizer X into the 15 cups marked X. Repeat with Brand Y. Add no fertilizer to the C cups =control. 4. Add 30 mL of water to each. 5. Place sun lamp over the plants. 6. Water each cup with 25 mL of water every day. 7. Measure the height of the bean plants after 6 weeks. 8. Record in data table.

Place a copy of your Data table here. Include a title and units (ex. cm) trial No fertfert Xfert Y 1 101220 2 111618 3 121716 4 101815 5 10.51715.5 6 1116 7 111614 8 1217.513 9 91512 total 96.5144.5139.5 avg. 10.7222216.0555615.5 Fertilizer X & Y and not fertilizer

You don’t actually have to place you data table into a PowerPoint slide. You can print it from excel and put it in the proper order of slides. It is the same for your graphs too. You are handing in a printed copy, NOT emailing me your project. Also, if you do put your graph directly into PPT. Insert, Textbox and be a great help.

Average Graph-be sure to include title and label everything (x & Y axis) Centi- meters of growth

Line Graph of all of your trials. Centi Meters Growth with + without fertilizers for bean plants Trials No fert Fert X Fert Y

Add photo of you doing your project or your results. Example. (I took this from internet)

Conclusion-I’ve mostly copied from the science packet. Format it this way. The rubric will grade you this way. Paragraph 1: Restate your problem statement. Highlight the most important facts from your research. Restate your hypothesis. Paragraph 2: Summarize your procedure. – DO NOT list every step or include a list of materials! – This is a narrative overview of what you did. Paragraph 3: State the results for each test group using the actual numbers in your sentences. Explain what your results mean. – Do your variables affect the outcome of the experiment? – Reflect back on your hypothesis – was it proven false? supported? Or was your data inconclusive (aka “I’m not sure”). – Remember, it is just as important to discuss what did happen as what did not happen. Consider all sources of error that could have affected the outcome. (Did you forget to water the plants?) – Discuss how these errors would have impacted your results. Paragraph 4: Propose “next steps” such as: – How is this information useful or important to people? What did you learn? – Can you think of a new way to test the same statement? – Is there a new question you have based on the outcome?

You’ll likely need 2 slides or more for a conclusion.

Don’t forget to fill out your notebook and turn it in. You already set up the table of contents in class. 1 per/person Table of Contents (set this up on your first page and fill it in as you go along) Topic Ideas Problem Statement for chosen project (and Project title) Notes for Background Information (NOT the actual final draft) Actual Materials & Procedure (reflects teachers recommendations) Data Tables (raw and summary data) *Daily observations (similar to a diary) Pictures of experimentation *Calculations Graph Conclusion notes Poster design
