5 ARE LANGUAGES FOR YOU? Do you enjoy working in groups? Do you like expressing yourself? Are you sociable? Are you interested in other cultures? Are you interested in going abroad? Do you like travelling? Do you like meeting people? Do you enjoy taking risks?

7 Should I choose French or Spanish? Do you wish to work for the EU? Do you wish to work with the Olympic organising team? Do you want to travel / visit or work in Europe - Belgium / Luxemburg / Switzerland? Are you interested in relief work in Africa? Are you interested in becoming a doctor for Medecins Sans Frontiere? Choose French! Are you interested in international business in South America? Are you interested in living in USA? Choose Spanish! Are you interested in Latin music? Are you interested in salsa dancing? Flamenco? Tapas? Sunny holidays?! Choose Spanish!

8 You will sit 4 exams in May of Year 11. 5FR01 - Listening paper - 35 minutes Higher/Foundation options 5FR02 - Speaking exam - 15 minutes in total 5FR03 - Reading exam - 50 minutes Higher Tier 35 minutes Foundation Tier 5FR04 - Writing exam - 1.20 Higher Tier 1hour - Foundation Tier (tbc) -T-Translation into French /writing essay in French -N-No dictionaries available.

9 Can you speak, read and write another language? If you can, you may be able to take a GCSE in that language! Some languages available: Polish Japanese Mandarin Persian Arabic Italian German Gujerati Hindi Urdu Bengali Korean Portuguese

10 Things to know: You will be asked to: 1.Complete an assessment of reading and writing skills 2.Attend a meeting with Mr Williams (MFL dept) 3.Practice at least 6 past papers - you will be provided with these. 4.Sit the exam in May of Year 10 or in some cases, Year 11. 5.Sit 4 Exams: Listening, reading, writing, speaking. NB: NO TUITION PROVIDED!! NB2: THIS COUNTS AS A LANGUAGE GCSE (ebacc)

11 Hollyfield staff are qualified to teach French, Spanish and Italian At A level. You must get an A at GCSE to take the A level. Why? Well at University if you take a language they will pay you to live Abroad for a whole year - like a year long holiday. Seriously!!!
