A preposition will tell 4 things: -Where something is (location) - on -Where something is going (direction) - to -When something happens (time) - in -The relationship between a noun/pronoun and another word in a sentence - of

3 Build up What is preposition? About / Above After / Against From / In Into / Like Of / Off At / On By / During Except / For To / Until Up / Without according to because of due to inside of next to regard of regardless of thanks to as well as in addition to in case of Commonly Used Prepositions

4 Build up School starts at nine o’clock. 1. School starts at nine o’clock. We’re going to the zoo on Saturday. 2. We’re going to the zoo on Saturday. 3. I stay with my family on Christmas. 4. There should be a lot of progress in the next century. 5. In England, it often snows in December. 6. Where will you be on New Year's Day? 7. The stars shine at night. 8. 5 Build up 1 At for a PRECISE TIME Preposition of Time: At We use ‘at’ for a point in time: at 10 o'clock / at bedtime at dinnertime / at breakfast at lunch / at the moment at noon / at midnight We also use at to refer to holiday seasons: at Christmas, at Easter [the season, not the day]

6 Build up 2 On for DAYS and DATES Preposition of Time: In We use ‘on’ for days/dates: on Monday / on Wednesday, July 18 on Friday night / on the weekend on December 25 / on Christmas Day on the 12th of January / on Sunday morning on my birthday / on their anniversary on the (morning, night) of September 23 on the following day

7 Build up 3 In for MONTHS, YEARS, CENTURIES and LONG PERIODS Preposition of Time: In We use ‘in’ with periods of time such as centuries, years, seasons, months, and parts of the day : in the nineteenth century in May / in 1986 / in the fifties in the (early, late) 1990's in the (spring, summer, fall, winter) in the (morning, afternoon, evening)

8 Build up 4 Tips Preposition of Time: At, On, In When we say last, next, every, this we do not use at, on, in. I went to London last June. (not in last June) He's coming back next Tuesday. (not on next Tuesday) I go home every Easter. (not at every Easter) We'll call you this evening. (not in this evening)
