4. Why are good learning objectives critical to planning effective instruction? Good learning objectives are weighted on the standard the teacher wants learned. The student will not reap the full benefits of lesson design if good learning objects have not been defined. An objective that are clear and measureable is considered to be good. Provide an example of a good learning objective aligned with the Common Core State Standards. What makes this a “good” learning objective? An objective that is clear and measureable is considered to be good. For example, After completing this lesson the student will able to identify that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left. (CCST, 2014)

5. What are some common pitfalls in planning effective lessons? How can we avoid these pitfalls? Common Pitfalls The learning objective is more focused on learning activities. The learning objective defines what the teacher will be doing. Trying to cover too much content. For existence, A teacher trying to cover all the content in the textbook before the end of the school year. Pitfalls can be avoided when teachers plan lessons that have a beginning and an end. The lesson must contain an objective that is clear and measurable

The Common Core State Standards Initiative was designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful in the 21 st century. The Common Core Standards have been designed to assist teachers with the following: *Provide clear goals for student learning. *Ensure that the learning objectives are measurable *Bring consistency across * But more importantly, the Common Core Standards were developed to focus on “How” students learn.

8. Compare and Contrast UDL Every student has an inquiry about something that automatically supports learning for all students from the very beginning of the lesson plan. The lesson serves as a connection for inquiry. This lesson plan involves experimenting with paint, textures and paper. Something that all students can relate to even those students with disabilities. Using the method of experimentation supports student learning because the assessment involved is not tested on what they know but what is being discovered. This allows the students to learn in a more relaxed mode. The students are also learning from engaging with each other. The expressions that support learning will be in the products completed from the discoveries. For students with disabilities the assistive technology can simply be a teacher walking around the class letting students feel a paper plate with wet paint on it. The computer can have a person explaining what wet paint feels like and describing what the texture of a paper plate is. This would be a great example for a blind student that hears the teacher talking about the lesson but can’t see what paper is or what paint looks like. I would have all the students make a project utilizing paper and paint. Students that aren’t able to paint can participate in the experience by being the voice for the students that can paint. They can either write how they imagine their painting or tell the other students what to paint. It would be interesting for me to be blind folded and have another student paint what I tell them. Group participation in this activity. DIFFERENTIATION Differentiated instruction is essential to effectively implementing the challenging curriculums associated with the Common Core State Standards Initiative. Differentiation is the process at which learning will be achieved. The curriculum standards that are designed for the students require a variety of teaching tools, activities and social interaction. Differentiated instruction requires teachers to design lesson plans that can be modified to teach students with multiple learning styles including special needs students. Differentiated instruction is an inclusive practice (Puckett, 2013).
