5 ABSTRACT On this page, you write your abstract. The abstract is a brief, comprehensive summary of the contents of your paper. It provides a snapshot of your paper for the reader. Abstracts should be concise, specific and accurate. You should include the experiment you replicated and then the aim, method and conclusion of your experiment. The length of your abstract should not exceed 200 words. Please note that the abstract is not indented Conclusion: summary of results and comparison

7 INTRODUCTION Make sure you include the important aspects of the study to be replicated and make sure you clearly state the aim of your experiment. Avoid first person. Must be properly referenced R2: “The study replicated is clearly identified and relevant details of the study are explained. The aim of the student’s study is clearly stated.” *Make sure it is properly referenced and be explicit *“Details”, aim, type of design, target pop, samply, results, conclusion, etc. *Should be ¾ of a page or so.

8 Methods Design Type and justification of design—what experimental method (for example repeated measures, independent measures, etc. and why was it selected? Identification of variables (put the DV and IV in bold in this section). Any controls you used like a standard introduction, asked them not to talk, etc. Ethical considerations- Make sure to go through each of the ethics and reference the forms you have that made that are in the appendix. R2: The independent variable and dependent variable are accurately identified and operationalized. The experimental design is appropriate to the aim and its use is appropriately justified. There is clear indication and documentation of how ethical guidelines were followed. *Operationalized=measurable terms, What IF other method?, consent and debriefing described and referenced.

9 PARTICIPANTS Characteristics of target population—identify the sample and the characteristics of the target population—age, gender distribution, number of participants. Sampling procedure must be identified and clearly justified. R2: Relevant characteristics of the participants are identified. The sample is selected using an appropriate method and the use of this method is explained. *Identify the “target population” specifically *Look through consent forms: info on the board….does this accurately represent the target population? *Don’t name school, but generally describe area

10 MATERIALS List of materials used—those specifically developed for the experiment. Sample copy should be included in the appendices. The full text of standardized instructions, informed consent and debriefing notes should be included in the appendices. Reference to copies in appendices

11 PROCEDURE Itemized in sufficient detail to allow full replication— carefully and accurately describe how the experiment is conducted. This should be done in chronological order beginning with how materials were developed. Enough detail should be provided so that another researcher could replicate the experiment. R2: The procedural information is relevant and clearly described, so that the study is easily replicable. Details of how the ethical guidelines were applied are included. Necessary materials have been included and referenced in the appendices. *Can be bullet point. Needs to be fully replicable. Be clear and concise.

12 RESULTS Results should be in both narrative and graphical from. The data should be reported in a way that reflects the aims. Make sure to have one measure of central tendency and one of dispersion. The Interpret descriptive statistics in writing. One Graph (may be computer generated). R4: Results are clearly stated and accurate and reflect the aim of the research. Appropriate descriptive statistics (one measure of central tendency and one measure of dispersion) are applied to the data and their use is explained. The graph of results is accurate, clear and directly relevant to the aim of the study. Results are presented in both words and tabular form. *mean paragraph, graph and table. Redundancy. measure. Justify. Separated bars. Label label label! Why not mode or median? Relate back to aim. Reference raw data chart. TABLE 

14 DISCUSSION R6: Discussion of results is well-developed (for example, differences in the results of calculations of central tendency and/or dispersion are explained). The findings of the student’s experimental study are discussed with reference to the study being replicated. Limitations of the design and procedures are highly relevant and have been rigorously analysed. Modifications are suggested and ideas for further research are mentioned. 16 “PRESENTATION” a rubric area R2: The report is within the word limit of 1000-1500 words. The report is complete and in the required format. The reference for the study being replicated is cited using a standard method of listing references. Appendices are labelled appropriately and are referenced in the body of the report. The abstract is clearly written and includes a summary overview of the student’s experimental study, including the results.
