12 FAFSA Free Application for Federal Student Aid www.fafsa.gov Available on Jan. 1, 2015 for 2015-16 year Cottey’s priority deadline is March 1

13 Determining Need Family’s income, assets, family size, and number attending college are used to calculate the expected family contribution (EFC) Cost of Attendance minus EFC = Need Once need is determined, the financial aid office can determine aid eligibility

14 Financial Aid Package A package can include scholarships, grants, student employment, and student loans. Amount of financial aid varies from student to student based on financial need. All of these aid programs add up to making it affordable for most students!

15 Award Letters The financial aid office starts sending award letters to students in late March/early April. An award letter shows the cost of attendance and all of the financial aid for which the student qualifies. We want this to be as complete as possible because many students make their final college decision based on financial aid and cost.
