National Occupational Standards for Assessment & Internal Verification changed Sept 2010 inline with QCF (old NQF phased out) New qualifications are designed for Assessment & Quality Assurance Role of the IV changes, function changes to Quality Assurance of the Learner Journey Existing qualified staff are not expected to requalify – but must demonstrate how their practice meets the new standards through CPD Inspire  Innovate  Succeed

Qualified and practising staff embark on knowledge based units on new quals – considered best practice by Awarding Organisations IQA Qualification is split into role of IQA and Lead IQA – roles more time consuming/higher level of responsibility Assessor Qualifications split into Work based Assessor or Classroom based Assessor Inspire  Innovate  Succeed

4 What is Internal Quality Assurance?
Internal Quality Assurance is defined as a set of policies, procedures, systems or processes to ensure that the delivery of assessment is consistent, valid, reliable, sufficient and robust within the learner journey – IQA’s making improvements where possible IV function was to authenticate assessors’ judgements, monitoring assessment within an approved centre, verifying decisions against the standards, reassessing! Role of the IQA Uphold the credibility of the qualification, by ensuring quality in learning delivery and assessment Assess and manage risks within the assessment process, risk banding the assessors individually Monitor the quality of training and assessment Identify issues and trends, training & development needs of the team and support through CPD Inspire  Innovate  Succeed

8 Changes to Regulations
The regulations and requirements for Internal Quality Assurance have changed For example: Regulatory Arrangements for the Qualifications and Credit Framework (2008) should apply e.g. Awarding Organisation can impose their own QA C & G Quality Assurance Requirements, NVQ Code of Practice is now obsolete if your qualifications have migrated to the QCF! Every IQA should be ensuring assessors are applying the policies and procedures within their centre: Health and safety, including learner welfare Confidentiality & data protection Transparency within the assessment process Records keeping Security and safe storage of information Equal opportunities and diversity (including bilingualism) Inspire  Innovate  Succeed
