3. Why paging slips to a database? 1. It all started with printing…at 14 libraries in 8 cities… 2. We needed to be able to save/reprint paging slips. 3.Then a research project whose goal was to change repeated automatic renewal for faculty got us saving pickup notices. 4.And that turned into a bigger paging slip/pickup notice database. 5.Then we realized we had a new collection management tool on our hands. 6.And we made big and little versions of that tool. 7. Printing 1. Paging slip files are emailed from III server to local web server. 2. Script moves files to appropriate directories. 3.Files are processed by code that: a.reads and parses data b.populates an output template using a PHP PDF library to generate notices c.generates, stores and prints paging slip files 4.Code stores all data for use by reporting and collection management tools.
