Lockheed Martin Project Matt Moreno, Shane Heacox, Bailey Dickson Group 4 EDSGN 100 Section 8 Design Project #2

Table of Contents Description of design task and process Evaluation Engineering Analysis Model Conclusion

Our mission is to design and build a device that will allow three USB hubs to be mounted together, while using additive manufacturing techniques. Figure 2: New HubFigure 1: Old Hub and Bracket

In order to define our stakeholders, we must know exactly the restrictions of the project. Updated design requirements New USB Hub clips must be made From a 4 port hub To a 7 port hub From Horizontal mount To Vertical mount From single usb hub to stacked 3 high Environment 0 to +25C

Designers must recognize the stakeholder’s needs and understand constraints in order to come up with specifications. Stakeholders: ●Our group members ●Lockheed Martin (Primary) ●Professor Colledge ●Mechanics ●Pilots ●Suppliers ●Other users ●Library (3D Printers) Specifications: ●Needs to have 7 USB ports ●Bracket must hold 1-3 stacked USB hubs together ●Cost effective material ●Reduce the number of parts Constraints: ●Must be a plastic polymer (no metal)

When deciding on specifications, it is important to focus on the target markets. Primary - Lockheed Martin will use the bracket throughout many of their vehicles and projects instead of their current bracket they are using now

We interpreted Lockheed Martin’s needs to specifications in order to add them into our design Figure 3: Specification Table:

Brainstorming is a necessary process in order to decide what idea will be the most successful. Brainstorming Ideas: 2 piece bracket 3 leveled, two piece bracket Clips to allow stacking of two piece bracket Clip to hold wires Sliding cover to hold wires

Figure 4: Brainstorming Chart

By using the specification, brainstorming and pairwise comparison table we decided what idea would be the best Figure 5: Concept Selection Table

Pros to our new bracket design: 2 piece bracket Easily printed Lightweight Easily mounted horizontally or vertically Holds up to three USB hubs Dimensions can be altered easily

It is important to have proper time management in order to get all of the tasks done on time Figure 6: Gantt Chart

Conclusion & Questions Successfully completed our mission statement in a timely and cost effective manner Covered all of the specifications Lockheed Martin asked for when designing for a new USB Hub Brackett
