3 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE The Challenge: “Games, Camera, Action!” With the 2016 Olympics around the corner, the BBC is looking for a Youth TV Production Company to develop a special show to accompany the Olympics and you have been invited to pitch. RE-CAP!

4 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE As a Team you must… – Assign roles – Decide what the objective of your TV show is –Develop an overview of your proposed show RE-CAP! The Brief: The BBC needs a concept for 6 episodes: one per week for the build up and the duration of the Olympics (19 days) and the Paralympic Games (11 days). Days, dates and times are down to your team!

5 INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE What are you going to get out of this? –The opportunity to win a virtual one-to-one CV clinic with the BBC –The four finalists will have a unique insight experience day at the BBC –Network with local SMEs and employees from the BBC –Practical employability skills –CV enhancement RE-CAP!

8 What is Expected of You? You will be guided through this journey with weekly sessions. These will include set tasks, as well as free research time. What you get out of this experience will be determined by what YOU put in. On Week 6 you will present the following: 1.A five-minute video of your team’s pitch to win the TV production contract 2.A ten-minute, live, group presentation on how you have worked as a team 3.Evidence of your work- either a hard copy folder of all research and ideas printed and professionally presented, OR a ppt presentation of the above on a USB stick INTRODUCTION THE CHALLENGE RE-CAP!

13 Discussion point: Rio’s budget is £7.9billion to host the Olympics In contrast, its slums (favela) has 10,000 residents What are the potential positive and negative impacts of the Olympics being hosted in Rio? GAMES, CAMERA, ACTION! RESEARCH Your TV Show Do you know how much was spent on London 2012? (Hint: more than Rio!)

14 RESPONSIBILITY Olympics and Sustainability What does ‘sustainability’ mean to you? GAMES, CAMERA, ACTION! “Any product, service or initiative that can be created and maintained without damaging the environment.” “Maintaining a healthy way of life without harming the environment.”

15 1.How is Rio committing to its Olympic Legacy? 2.How is it working to be sustainable? 3.How can it use the Olympics to boost it’s economy long after the Games? GAMES, CAMERA, ACTION! RESEARCH Your TV Show

16 LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! SUSTAINABILITY How long will your show take to film? Will the making of your show harm animals? People? The environment? If so, how can you avoid or counteract these risks? What positive action can your production company take during filming to affect the environment -Consider travel, food & drink, electricity, waste, make-up etc Making Your Show
