4. Personal Project Overview
An independent, long term project focusing on a topic personally engaging to the student
It is completed outside of class time
The culminating task that allows each student to demonstrate the understanding, skills and attitudes developed over the 5 years in MYP

5. An opportunity for students to show their learning through a project that the student feels passionately about

6. Aims of the Personal Project
To enable and encourage you to:
Participate in a sustained, self-directed inquiry into an area of interest within a global context
Generate and create new insights and develop deeper understandings through in-depth investigation
Demonstrate the skills, attitudes and understanding required to complete a project over an extended period of time
Communicate effectively in a variety of situations
Demonstrate principled action based on their learning that makes personal and/or community impact
Appreciate the process of learning and take pride in their accomplishments

The Project includes:

10. The Goal
The goal of the project is what the student will produce or perform to demonstrate what they’ve learned. It is the personal and/or community impact a student strives to achieve

11. Examples The student will:
paint an abstract showing my ideas on freedom (personal and cultural expression)
build vertical gardens for a family in Cambodia who need vegetables but do not have a lot of land (globalization and sustainability).
perform a Hungarian folk dance for an audience that communicates key elements of the culture (personal and cultural expression).
write an essay on the current situation of the Great Barrier Reef with recommendations about how to protect it best (scientific and technical innovation)
do a live demonstration to explain how the pesticides in some local food items might be (or not be) a health threat. (fairness and development)

12. The Product/Outcome What the student creates to reach the goal
Students must research and investigate what product or outcome will best reach their goal
Product- is usually a physical or digital creation in response to the goal-ex: brochures websites, works of art, new technological designs
Outcome- is usually an event or change in response to the goal-ex: demonstrating increased fitness , raise awareness
The Goal is NOT the Product
The Product is NOT the goal

13. The Process Journal
The record of progress maintained by the student throughout the project. Presents evidence of their working behaviors and academic honesty.

May include Ongoing reflections ,Research notes, Visuals or video, Regular evaluation of the students goals , Ideas
The process journal is used in the assessment of ALL CRITERIA so it also helps them write the project report.

Find a Partner
Assign the Coach and the client
The Coaching Process
The Client describes a topic of interest to the Coach
The Coach paraphrases ( summarizes the idea) the idea for the topic and asks a question about that topic to the client.
The Client answers the question
The coach paraphrases the answer and asks another question.
The client answers the question
The client writes the details of their topic idea in their process journal
