Everyone have illnesses or medical conditions-like headaches, colds, or the flu-that can affect them at school. These medical conditions are temporary and they go away. But some people have chronic medical conditions that affect them. Chronic means that they continue a long time or recur frequently. There are lots of different kinds of chronic conditions, but today we are going to talk about two chronic conditions that are very common--Allergies and Asthma.

6 T H E N A T I O N A L A S S O C I A T I O N O F S C H O O L N U R S E S What is Asthma?  A disease in the lungs that makes you breathe hard, cough, wheeze, and makes your chest feel heavy and tight.

23 T H E N A T I O N A L A S S O C I A T I O N O F S C H O O L N U R S E S How to be a Good Friend If you think someone is having an asthma attack, tell an adult or walk your friend to get help. Be understanding if your friend can’t or chooses not to do something because it will make them feel sick. Think about how your friend's asthma may be affected when picking activities to do together. Try to think of something your friend can do so he or she can be included. Be an UPSTANDER!!
