2 HEPO’s ACTIVITIES 1. Promotion of products and services through: the coordination of the Greek participation in international exhibitions and in-store events, during fairs and tradeshows abroad, the design of the participation and the implementation of promotion activities in order to reinforce the value of Greek products and services. 2. Reinforcement of the extroversion of Greek companies through: initiating and leading Trade Missions and Road Shows, involving Greece and the target countries abroad, the supply of information and consultant services to Greek companies in order for them to develop their export activity, their orientation to target markets and to make the right choice of marketing tools and promotional material, the exploitation of similar community programs, the collaboration with its counterpart Organizations in the European Union, for the performance of joint activities in third countries.

3 HEPO’s ACTIVITIES 3. Certification of Product and Packaging Materials/ Laboratory Testing The Hellenic Packaging Institute (H.P.I.) is the single accredited Laboratory Center on packaging, not only in Greece, but in the wider area of southeastern Europe, Middle East and North Africa, and it is the operational unit of the Hellenic Foreign Trade Board (HEPO). It offers certification services for products and packaging materials and provides trials and analyses of materials and packaging products in the fully equipped laboratory of H.P.I. 4. Training The Center of Vocational Training of HEPO offers to Greek and foreign export companies and Organizations the opportunity to get a modern and professional training concerning the export policy, the marketing ideas and the packaging of products.

4 PROMOTIONAL ACTIVITIES HEPO is organizing the Greek participation to the International Exhibitions and provides the Greek businessman with: A powerful and multi-functional means of development for larger business relationships and alliances A marketing, as well as a market research, tool Supportive services that boost the benefits by participating to: Specialized information for the market and the importers Special Editions Training etc., and contributes to: The promotion of the company’s profile The expansion of business activities The upgrade of the country image

10 COUNTRY PROFILE Official name: GREECE Flag and emblem: The Hellenic Republic (Greece, Hellas) has a total area of 131,990 sq. km. Based on the temporary results of the population census carried out by the Hellenic Statistical Authority in 2011, the country’s permanent population is 10,787,690. The country’s population is concentrated in the Region of Attiki (35.34% of the resident population) that includes the major cities of Athens (greater area) and Piraeus and the Region of Kentriki Makedonia (17.38%) which includes the city of Thessaloniki. Athens is the capital city while other major cities are Thessaloniki, Patra, Iraklio, Volos. The time zone is GMT +2 for the entire country, the official language is Greek and the currency is the Euro. English is widely spoken as a commercial language. The country has geographic significance because of its strategic location in the Aegean Sea, serving as a gateway to the European Union’s Single Market for the Middle East and North Africa. It is a peninsular country possessing an archipelago of approximately 3,000 islands. Its coastline extends to more than 16,000 kilometers. Greece has land borders with Albania (282 km), FYROM (246 km), Bulgaria (494 km) and Turkey (206 km). The geographic coordinates of the country are 39 00 N, 22 00 E.

14 COUNTRY PROFILE Role in the Black Sea Region In terms of Greece’s economic presence in the Black Sea region, Greek companies are strongly entrenched in the region and are among the top investors in neighboring country markets. According to the Hellenic Investment Agency, over the last few years, more than 4,000 Greek companies have invested more than 15 billion Euro in Southeast Europe. In financial services alone, more than 3,000 branches of Greek banks are active in the region. Greece is a leading global tourism destination, an emerging regional energy hub, and possesses human capital that is outstanding. Greece’s role in the region is also highlighted by the fact that in the educational sector, high quality academic qualifications are provided by Hellenic academic institutions on subject matters of relevance to the Black Sea. 21 INVESTING IN GREECE Food and Beverage Sector Food and beverage is the most dynamic and high growth sector in Greek manufacturing, accounting for 25% of turnover, 24% of employment, 25% of total invested capital, and almost 25% of added value. Growth in the sector averaged 20,6% during the last decade and food and beverage companies are the leading exporters in Greece, accounting for almost 20% of total export sales, with revenues of exceeding 2 billion Euro. The leading markets for Greece’s high-quality products include Germany, Italy, Spain, UK, and the United States. Many multinationals are enjoying the benefits of being based in Greece. Giants such as Nestlé, Coca Cola, Kraft Foods, Barilla, Cadbury, and General Mills manufacture a wide range of products and find that local and regional markets are receptive to new product lines as well as established favourites.

22 INVESTING IN GREECE Infrastructure In terms of transportation, there are a total of 2,600 km of railways and roadways total 117,000 km. Major highways include the Egnatia Highway, the PATHE Motorway, the Ionian Motorway, the Attiki Odos Motorway and the Rion-Antirrion Bridge.

23 INVESTING IN GREECE Infrastructure There are 12 major international ports: Piraeus, Thessaloniki, Volos, Patra, Alexandroupoli, Elefsina, Igoumenitsa, Iraklio, Kavala, Kalamata, Lavrio, Chalkida, Astakos.

24 INVESTING IN GREECE Infrastructure As far as airports, there are 15 international airports and 25 domestic airports servicing 20 million passengers annually. The main airports are: Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos), Thessaloniki, Iraklio (Crete), Rhodes, Corfu, Kos, Chania, Zakynthos, Samos, Mykonos and Santorini (Thira). In terms of telecommunications, there are approximately 6 million telephone lines in use while mobile cellular phone use reaches 16 million. The mobile phone market penetration is 150+%. The main mobile phone operators are Cosmote, Wind, Vodafone, Q Telecom. Internet market penetration is currently 33.9%.
