3. Project Overview Type a brief summary (short and concise narrative) of your project here. Why did this topic interest you? (4-6 sentences long)

4. Research (What sources did you use for your research? Internet, books, magazines, articles, etc.) Summarize your research here in three to five bullet points (minimum) is (3): Science Buddies (example) Science World Magazine 3rd bullet point 4th bullet point 5th bullet point

5. Variables-Controlled These are the things that are kept the same throughout your experiments. Bullet them. Use 3-4 words or one sentence Example: Amount of water Temperature Location of Plants Fertilizer

6. Variables(cont.)-Independent The one variable that you purposely change and test. What is it that “I’ changed? Example: Independent Variable = Type of Soil (Organic vs. Regular)

7. Variables(cont.)-Dependent Dependent variable: The measure of change observed because of the independent variable. It is measureable and observable. Example: Dependent Variable = Growth (Plant Height)

8. Hypothesis Based on the research you have done, you will be writing an answer or solution – Your best educated guess – to your question. I should be able to easily identify your independent & dependent variables from the hypothesis. Example: IF I use organic soil in my flower garden, THEN, the flowers will grow taller.

9. Materials Type a detailed list of the items you needed to complete your experiments. Be specific about the amounts, quantities, and types, etc. used. Be careful not to make your materials a procedures list. Example: 1 gallon of XYZ (this in the name of the soil) organic soil 1 cup of ABC fertilizer 1 teaspoon of growth hormone

10. Procedures 1. List all of the steps (like if you were following a cooking recipe) to be used in completing your experiment. 2. Remember to NUMBER your steps. 3. Add photos of your experiments. Remember to caption your photos. 4. Font size for Procedures ONLY can be 20. 5. It may take you more than 3-4 slides to complete your procedures. DO NOT use one procedure for each slide!

11. Data/Observations This slide will be a brief summary/narrative of your observations. It is easier to understand the data if it is put into a table or graph. You can create data table using Microsoft Excel and import to PowerPoint. In the next two slides insert your data table(s) & graph(s) Make sure all data is clearly labeled. Identify/label your (x,y) axis; tile your data tables & graphs. You can also insert photos here. Remember to caption them.

14. Conclusion Type a brief summary here of what you discovered based on the results of your experiments. You need to indicate whether or not the data supports the hypothesis and explain why or why not. Was your hypothesis TRUE or FALSE?

15. Works Cited/Bibliography Be sure to include all print and electronic sources and put them in alphabetical order. Use MLA guidelines.

16. Dos & Don’ts Do NOT use a Font Size smaller than a 28. Procedures may be a font size of no smaller than 20. Do use one of the following font types: Times New Roman, Century Gothic, Arial, and Comic Sans MS Do bullet your information and keep it concise as possible. Do keep slide animation & transitions to a minimal. (Too much can become distracting) Do add music, videos, data tables, graphs and pictures to your presentation. Make sure it is relevant to your topic. Music may be used in the introductory slide/opening slide (Just a few seconds of music). Videos – no more than 1 minute.

17. Requirements On the day you present, you must have your presentation saved onto a flash drive/jump drive. You will be presenting using the projector. Students must provide a hard copy of their slide show. You can print one slide per page, two slides per page or four slides per page (no more than that, please!). Color is preferred but, not required.

18. Dos & Don’ts Do get creative with your background design. Don’t use a font color that will not be visible to with your background. Stay away from dark backgrounds using RED as your font color. Only use RED to make a point about something or error in your project. Do check your grammar and spelling. Have your parents, older siblings, friends and others take a look at your presentation for mistakes. Be consistent with your headers & alignment (justification). Do use Italics, Underline and BOLD when you want to make a point or identify something important! Don’t make your slides cluttered and busy with too many clipart images, pictures, etc. Do practice presenting in front of people so you become comfortable speaking in public. Don’t give your back to the audience when presenting and speak loud, clear and with confidence. Do have eye contact with your audience.
