2. Quiz on Night and Parts of Speech 1)Outline four events that stuck out in your mind from the reading assignment to p. 85. If you’ve read ahead, indicate so and write four events that stuck out from what you read.

3. Quiz (continued) 2) Identify each underlined word as a noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb or conjunction. Write the word and then give the part of speech. Example: I=Pronoun “I wanted to come back to Sighet to tell you the story of my death so that you could prepare yourselves while there was still time. To live? Practice by identifying the subject and the predicate in each of these sentences: 1)That car runs like junk. 2)I wish I had myself a good friend. 3)Have you ever been told not to talk when it was really important that you had to talk? (Tricky, tricky). ****Now get with a neighbor and write three more sentences and identify the subjects and predicates of each!

10. Sentence Types Defined A simple sentence is a sentence with one independent clause. This means it is one complete sentence with no extra baggage. A compound sentence contains two or more independent clauses. This means that you could find two or more sentences in it, but they are separated by a conjunction. We’ll cover complex sentences later…
