6 So what’s the importance of food labels? Food labels tell you information about the food you eat or buy Tells you the percent of your daily needs for different nutrients that you can get by eating a particular food The main things found on food labels are: Amount of Calories Amount of Fat Amount of Carbohydrates Amount of Protein Amount of Vitamins, Minerals and other nutrients Sugar, Fiber Visit us at www.fit4kidz.us © 2013 Biometrics Health; All rights reserved.

7 How to determine a healthy food by the food label Try to stay low in calories, saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol and sodium –Less than 5% of your daily value should come from these groups for anything you choose to eat Less than 5% of your daily value from a certain food is considered low for certain nutrients, vitamins and minerals Greater than 20% of your daily value from a certain food is considered high Try to stay high in fiber, protein as well as vitamins and minerals.
