Overview Introduction  Purpose of ROR  What is ROR? Google Base vs. ROR Vocabularies  General Vocabularies  Web Vocabularies ROR Feeds Google Sitemap vs. ROR Conclusion

Heart of Search Crawlers. Indexing of the web-pages.

Ranking of Websites Popularity of website. Traffic density of the website. Size of the web-site. Authentic information on the web-site. Frequently update of the contents of web-site. Usability of the web-site. Keyword matches.

Is this really what the end-user wants?

Emergency warnings: tornado’s Deals offered by a store. Product information and discounts. These words mean a lot to the end-user, but won't mean much to a search engine. This can be resolved if we can some how force the search engines to understand the meaning.

ROR’s and Their Purpose Format the information in such a way that spiders can immediately recognize and index its content. Resulting in a concept of structured feed. Machine readable description of any object.

What is ROR? It is a website content description format. Created by AddMe.com It is like a website business card.

For example In an online store, it enables us to document the Product names Descriptions Prices Images Availability Affiliate programs, etc. Communicating the product information to the shopping search engines.

Logical Relation Between Objects Store Products Laptops Desktops Digital Cameras Camcorders Accessories Reviews Discounts Thanks giving-Discount Christmas-Discount New Year-Discount

ROR also provides terms for documenting objects such as: Contacts Articles Newsletter Feeds Image Audio Links Reviews Privacy policy Copyrights and more

Google Base vs. ROR Google base is striking similar to ROR. Google is willing to host the contents for free but not to share its resources with other search engines. Such a move is biased towards Google base which makes ROR even more versatile and friendly towards other search engines.

ROR Format Is an XML format. All elements are described using the Resource class. They can optionally be identified using the rdf:about attribute. Class types are identified by the type property. Classes Resource: Defines a new resource or object Main: Defines the main resource Properties id: Identifier or short name of the resource title: Title of the resource desc: Short description of the resource.

Properties type: Type of the resource keywords: Keywords describing the content of the resource url: URL of the resource if applicable updated: Last update date of the resource updatePeriod: Update period of the resource updateRate: Rate of the update period of the resource is available: Determines if the resource is currently available resource: A resource or object associated with this resource resourceOf: A resource or object this resource is associated with seeAlso: A resource or object with more information about this resource

ROR objects are placed in an ROR feed with the default name ror.xml. If search engines don't find it there they look for a “link” tag in the main page between the “head” tag. <link id="rorlink" rel="meta" type="application/rdf+xml" title="ROR" href="another-file.xml" /> ROR File Editor- extracts information from your website and allow you to describe it further.

What is Sitemap? A page which contains an organized listing of links to all pages within the website. Having a well structured sitemap will help a search engine spider to index the website. There are different kinds of Sitemaps. Ex: ROR Sitemap, Google Sitemap etc.

The Sitemap protocol format consists of XML tags. Sample XML Sitemap The following example shows a Sitemap that contains just one URL and uses all optional tags. The optional tags are in italics. xmlns="http://www.sitemaps.org/schemas/sitemap/0.9"> http://www.example.com/ 2005-01-01 monthly 0.8

ROR was actually created before Goolge Sitemaps. ROR is much more than Google Sitemaps, it does not only help describe your sitemap, but also products, services, feeds, articles, reviews, archives, and much more objects. ROR Sitemaps are automatically readable by all search engines, including Google. ROR Vs Google Sitemaps

Conclusion Through ROR the content of web-site can be searched easily. The generic XML format which describes any object of web content makes ROR to be used by any search engine. Using the Sitemap protocol does not guarantee that web pages are included in search engines, but provides hints for web crawlers to do a better job of crawling your site.
