2. Spring Scale A device which measures an object to be weighed by hanging it from the hook. It uses a calibrated scale that is measured in Newtons or grams. You must hang the item to be weighed from the hook, either in a bag or by itself.

3. Triple Beam Balance/Electronic Balance Electronic balances must be turned on! They must read 0.0 before you put the item to be weighed on the plate. They measure in grams or ounces.

4. Graduated Cylinder Measures liquids usually in milliliters. You must be looking at the cylinder at eye level, as there is a meniscus (a curved surface on the liquid) which may distort a reading.

5. Ruler/Meter Stick/Measuring Tape/Calipers Some of these tools you know very well. You know they measure in inches, feet or yards OR they measure in mm, cm, and meters. Calipers measure items from one side to another. Our calipers measure in mm.
