2 Brief Intro to Islam A monotheistic religion Followers are called Muslims Believe in Allãh(the God) Regard Qur'an as the revelation from God; Sunnah the verbal record of Muhammad. Ragard Jesus, Moses, Abraham and Muhammad as prophets of God.

3 Islam vs Islamism Islam is a religion Islamism is an ideology. Religion is a cultural system of behaviors and practice, world view, sacred texts, holy places,ethics, and societal organisation that relate humanity to what an anthropoloist called"an order of existence" ("Religion" Wikipedia) An ideology is a comprehensive normative vision that are followed by people, government,or other groups that is considered the correct way by the majoity of population,.....It can also be a set of ideas proposed by the dominant class of society such as the elite to all members of society. 4 Islamism Definition: -an Islamic revival movement often characterized by moral conservatism, literalism, and the attempt "to implement Islamic values in all spheres of life. " ("Islamism" Wikipedia) -"the belief that Islam should guide social and political as well as personal life " ("Islamism" Wikipedia)

5 History of Islamism In the end of the19th century Europian influences reached the declining Ottoman Empire. A group of Muslim reformers arose including Jamal ad-din al- afghani, Muhammad Abduh, and Rashid Rida.

6 History of Islamism Jamal ad-din al Afghani and Muhammad Abduh -Western techonology -reject taqlid("to follow")(the decision of authority without questioning) Rashid Rida in his maganize"Al Manar" -reject taqlid -establish a "true Islam" society without non-Muslim and Western influences Hassan al-Banna -1928 established the Ikhwan al-Muslimeen(The Muslim Brotherhood)

13 Social System Principles of the social system: 1.Respect rights of individual 2.Society built on right, justice, & mutual kindness 3.Bond of unity & co-operation (every aspects of life!!!!!) 4.Good morals maintenance (ex: honesty, sacrifice, sympathy, love, respect; no sadness) --> goodness obeyed & evil banned

14 Judicial System Aims: establish justice, security, & stability in society Principles of the Judiciary System 1.Judge: pious man judging justly & rightly 2.No judgment given without evidence, testimony of witnesses, & admission of the accused 3.Accused man is innocent until proven guilty 4.Judgment according to the laws & rules of Islam

22 Definition of Dystopian Literature A futuristic, imagined universe in which oppressive societal control and the illusion of a perfect society are maintained through corporate, bureaucratic, technological, moral, or totalitarian control. Dystopias, through an exaggerated worst-case scenario, make a criticism about a current trend, societal norm, or political system.
