 It was in the early part of the nineteenth century when Faraday realised that since electric current produced magnetic fields, that perhaps a magnetic field could produce an electric current.

 To produce a current in the wire, work must be done on the wire, which means moving the wire across the magnet of vice versa.

 The arrangement of the hand is the same but this is known as the dynamo effect, or for generating current

The product of the magnetic flux density (B) and the area (A) is called the magnetic flux (  )  = BA cosθ Magnetic flux has the derived units of (Tm 2 ) and is given the special unit Weber (Wb) Magnetic flux has the derived units of (Tm 2 ) and is given the special unit Weber (Wb)

 As before, if the loop of wire is parallel to the field, then θ = 90 and cos θ = 0 and the magnetic flux = 0.

 In practical terms, motors and generators NEVER use just one wire.  We therefore need to know the flux through a number, N, loops of wire.  This is the flux linkage and defined as – Flux Linkage = NФ  Measured in Weber turns
