Smart Radio Team 2 2S Introduction - Purpose of Mesh Desktop demonstration Objectives: Show the principles of the Telefonica Smart Meter Wide Area Network Solution. Show that the Connode Mesh is a proven and robust Smart Metering solution. Provide a demonstration of the Connode Mesh network. We will demonstrate that connectivity using a desktop environment. Show that the Communication Hub Install & Leave processs will leave you with the best chance of a connection. Show that the Coverage Checker Database will tell you which Ccommunication Hub WAN variant to install.

Smart Radio Team 3 Coverage Commitment - Comms hub usage breakdown 3 Coverage extension 5.4% MESH 1.1% Existing network 92.75% Telefonica coverage 98.15 % 99.25% 2015 80% 2015 80% 2017 97.75% 2017 97.75% 2021 99.25% 2021 99.25% Coverage targets * external antenna ports only on Mesh hubs. Based on our Current Cellular Coverage we expect that:- ~5.0% of premises will require internal antennas ~4.0% will be boundary MESH ~0.5% will need external antennas ~1% requires mesh connectivity Cellular only communication hub 90% Cellular + Mesh Communication Hub 10% Mesh 0.5% Boundary Mesh 4% Required for Antenna Socket 5% Mesh 0.5% Communication Hubs External ant 0.5%

Smart Radio Team 6 6S The Smart Meter Wide Area Network Partnership Solution The Telefonica Smart Meter Wide Area Network uses both O2 market leading 2G + 3G network and reinforces this with Connode Mesh Network Technology to connect those hard to reach locations. World class references from Connode & Toshiba RF Mesh – cost effective SW licence from Connode IPv6 network – all the way to the Comms Hub Dynamic and seamless transition 2G/3G Mesh Close collaborative partnership between Telefonica, Toshiba & Connode

Smart Radio Team 7 7S Who are Connode & why is their technology so important? Who are Connode? Connode are a market leading provider of wireless solutions in Europe for Smart Metering, with many years of experience and some 650.000 nodes in service with over 30 utilities. Helsinki reference site.. Why choose Connode? Connode’s implementation of this technology provides a self-configuring, self-annealing and self-healing capabilities makes it an ideal choice for a mesh wide area network. IPv6 to the Hub… Its adaptive nature makes it ideal for coverage hard to reach locations. Cost effective solution? Connode’s solution has been proven to reduced both cost and downtime for the utilities. What is 6LoWPAN ? IPv6 over Low-Power Wireless Personal Area Networks” –is a networking technology that allows IPv6 packets to be carried efficiently within small link layer frames, such as those defined by IEEE 802.15.4.

Smart Radio Team 9 Examples of mesh deployment scenarios Mesh will be required at less than 1% (195,000) of all premises. There are three mesh deployment types: Boundary Mesh(4%) – installed to provide a cellular gateway for a mesh area. Shown as the red locations adjacent to the white no coverage areas. Will include antennas. Planned Mesh(0.5%) - Where the property doesn’t receive adequate cellular coverage. Shown as the yellow location in the white no coverage area. Installations are not due to start until early 2017 to allow adequate testing of the Mesh wide area solution. Ad-hoc Mesh(0.5%) - “Install and leave” where a cellular + mesh hub has been installed as cellular only can’t connect. Shown as the yellow locations in the blue coverage area. Additional adjacent premise are automatically identified for Cellular + Mesh hub installation prior to any installation. 9

Smart Radio Team 15 Summary The Coverage Checker database (CCDB) available via the DCC Self Service Interface (SSI) or via DCC User Interface Service (DUIS) provides details of the correct Communication Hub WAN Variant to install at a premises. At times the SKU2 mesh capable Comms Hub will be “proactively” prescribed. Following the Comms Hub Installation and Maintenance Support Materials (CHIMSM) the SKU2 mesh capable Comms hub will be “reactively” installed - where the SKU1 cellular only Comms Hub does not connect. The Connode Mesh solution is tried, tested, and approved by Telefonica The Mesh Street showcase planned for June 2016 at the Buildings Research Establishment will provide the opportunity for an Industry assurance event which demonstrates Telefonica’s successful implementation of an already proven Smart Metering Mesh Technology
