Capstone Scholars Fellows: Tomorrow’s Leaders, Today’s World

Program Introduction The Fellows program was created to recognize students who have gone above and beyond in their first two years as Capstone Scholars. A Fellow is a Fellow who has actively sought educationally enriching and purposeful activities to complement their curricular education at USC.

Program Intentions They will practice critical thinking and inquiry as they create a balanced experiential education plan. They will engage in at least three High-Impact Educational Practices* and through reflection and presentation, will gain an understanding how these experiences interrelate and apply to their future plans.” (* will need citation (AAC&U, 2008))(AAC&U, 2008)

Benefits “There are many benefits to becoming a Capstone Scholars Fellow, including a notation on your transcript, continued grant eligibility, a broadened professional network and a demonstrated commitment to experiential learning.”

Benefits (Continued) 1.Early pursuit of Graduation with Leadership Distinction 2.Continued eligibility to compete for the Passport Travel, Magellan Apprentice, and Experiential Education Grants 3.Continued participation in all Capstone Scholars programs and events, including invitation-only Fellows Reception 4.Graduation stole available for purchase 5.University transcript notation (exclusive to Capstone)

Critical Deadlines “A Capstone Scholars Fellow demonstrates a clear ability to manage their time. There are several required deadlines of which you should be aware. Failure to meet these deadlines renders you automatically ineligible to become a Capstone Scholars Fellow.” A.Per-semester requirement deadlines B.November 15 th of your sophomore year C.April 15 th of your sophomore year

Per Semester Requirements “You must consistently submit all of the four per- semester requirements by the assigned deadline”: – Earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA – Meet with your Capstone Scholars Consultant – Serve in the Carolina or Columbia Community – Complete your Personal Challenge “Insert Narrative Video Here”

Additional Event per Semester “You must also attend one additional Capstone Scholars Program event during each of your four semesters.” Attend one Capstone Scholars event of your choice each semester in the program “Insert Narrative Video Here”

By November 15 th “Registering your intent to become a Capstone Scholars Fellow ensures that you are making timely progress. The following are requirements that must be met by November 15 th of your second year in the program.”

Ready to Register “Narrated PowerPoint Inserted Here” “When you have completed those requirements, you are ready to register to become a Capstone Scholars Fellow.” – Application link can be found online and in the newsletter.

By April 15 th “Upon successful registration, it is time to turn your attention to meeting the qualifications to apply. The following are requirements that must be met by April 15 th of your second year in the program.”

Identify High Impact Practice “Identify the high-impact practice in which you will participate for at least one semester or summer. You have until the end of your sophomore summer to complete it, but you must let us know which of the following you have completed or are in the process of completing”. – Pursuing a High-Impact Practice

Graduation With Leadership Distinction Orientation “Video (could be of staff explaining it, or actually accessing the orientation)” “Complete the Graduation with Leadership Distinction online Orientation and register for at least one pathway. Ideally, this will coincide with the high impact practice you have chosen to complete”.

Applying for the Capstone Scholars Fellow Program With these requirements complete, you are ready to apply to become a Capstone Scholars Fellow.” – Application link can be found online and in the newsletter.

Application Review Process “At this point, the Program staff will check your judicial standing with the University, your cumulative institutional grade point average, and that you have completed the per-semester requirements and event.” – GPA, Judicial Check, Semester Requirements, Additional Event

Capstone Colloquium “Lastly, you will present your beyond the classroom experience at the Capstone Colloquium in the fall of your junior year. Upon successful completion of this requirement, Fellowship will be conferred upon you at a formal reception.”
