5 IMPRESSIONISM Music that creates a general impression of something abstract Not describing a narrative

6 YOUR COMPOSITION Likely to have both programmatic and impressionist aspects Needs to be unified by some sort of theme Theme itself doesn’t need to be programmatic in itself Needs to be instantly recognisable

7 LEITMOTIFS Tunes which represent people, objects or emotions What aspects of a river’s journey could you write leitmotifs for?
