2 Life Born in Russia Studied music while in Law School Gave up legal job to enroll in St. Petersburg Conservatory Had a patroness (She financially supported Tchaikovsky so he could concentrate on composing.) –His 4 th Symphony is dedicated to her. Traveled all over Europe and came to America in 1891 for the opening of Carnegie Hall

3 Music Wrote music for three ballets - Swan Lake, Romeo & Juliet and The Nutcracker Suite Wrote 1812 Overture –The 1812 Overture commemorates Russia’s defense of their land against Napoleon in 1812. –The French national anthem La Marsillaise and Russia's God Save the Czar are within the music. –The song ends with cannons & church bells ringing to celebrate the Russian victory over France.
