4. Why we do this presentation:  It is important that students base their decisions on good information relevant to their abilities, interests and work ethic and possible future plans.  Forest Heights Community School has changed the way they do course selection. This year students are being asked to pick their courses and to also choose their schedule.

6. High School Credits A credit is awarded when a student has demonstrated acceptable achievement of the outcomes of an approved course. (50%) Each course is normally completed in a minimum of 110 hours of scheduled instructional time. (Note the importance of attendance)

7. If you receive your first credit in the 2007-2008 school year or later the following represents your graduation requirements. You must have a minimum of 18 credits. NO more than 7 grade 10 credits may be used. At least 5 credits must be at the grade 12 level. There are a number of compulsory credits. 12. Grading at Forest Heights Grade 10 Home Room Earn a minimum of four credits to Proceed to grade 11 Home Room Earn sufficient credits to be eligible for Graduation to (eg. 18-8=10) Proceed to a Grade 12 Home Room

13. Semesters Forest Heights Community School will be operating within a semester system in the 2016-2017 school year. A course successfully completed within a semester earns one credit.  Two semesters  First semester – September to end of January  Second semester – February to end of June  Four courses per semester  Each scheduled class is approximately 60 minutes long. Some grade 10 courses may take place half the time but all year for a full 110 hours.

40. Math Recommendations The grade 9 Mathematics teacher has recommend the Math route each grade 9 student should consider. Each student has a form which must be signed by parent parent/guardian. If you don’t agree with the Math teacher’s recommendation, that’s okay. However, a meeting with the Math teacher, the parents/guardians and the student is required in order to look at this decision carefully.

63. Skilled Trades Certified Journeypersons earn between $70 000 and $100 000 per year. Canada has a shortage of certified skilled trades people. Skilled Trades 10 and Construction Technology 11 can lead to a Co-operative Education credit with a Journeyperson. These hours can be used toward an apprenticeship.
