1 This task uses: Learning Objective(s): 5.NBT.A.1 Recognize that in a multi-digit number a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left. Using a number line to show place value increases in a multi-digit number 1. Open LearnZillion App on iPad 2. Click: Math Video Lesson Library. 3. Click: 5 th grade Math Video Lessons. 4. Click: 5 th grade Numbers and Operations in Base Ten 5. Click the first choice: Recognize the value of digits in multi- digit number using number lines and base ten blocks… 6. Click the third choice: Use number lines to show increase in place value with each shift to the left in a multi-digit 7.Click play button and watch video. 8.We will discuss what you have learned after everyone has finished videos.

2 Identifying Place Values (Decimal Numbers) 1.Open Math Pro!!! App on iPad. 2.Click: Numbers and Number Sense 3.Click: Identifying Place Values (Decimal Numbers) 4.Click Pick Answer and choose A, B, C, or D and get results and then go on to Next Question. 5.Complete the questions in that appear allowing for instant feedback on your answer (green check correct and colored x incorrect). 6.Stay positive and keep trying! This task uses: Learning Objective(s):. 5.NBT.A.1 Recognize that in a multi-digit number a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.

3 Understanding Whole Number and Decimal Number Place Value Increases by Using Number Lines 1.Open LearnZillion App on iPad. 2.Click: Math Video Lesson Library. 3.Click 5 th grade Math Video Lessons. 4.Click: 5 th grade Numbers and Operations in Base Ten. 5.Click: Recognize the value of digits in a multi-digit number using number lines and base ten blocks 6.Click: Use number lines to show increases in place value with each shift to the left in a multi-digit number. 7.Watch video 8.After video, students will break into groups and each group will create number line to from 0 to 1, 0 to 10, 0 to 100. Poster Boards will be provided. Then other groups will create number lines from 0 to 0.001, 0 to 0.01, 0 to 0.1 and then 0 to 1. As a class, a whole number and decimal number will be created and then portrayed on the lines showing the pattern of place value increases by 10. 9.Number lines will then be displayed outside of room in hallway. This task uses: Learning Objective: 5NBT.A.1 Recognize that in a multii-digit number a digit in one placer represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left. 4 Understanding Whole Number and Decimal Number Place Values 1.Open LearnZillion App on iPad. 2.Click Math Video Lesson Library. 3.Click: 5 th grade Math Video Lessons. 4.Click: 5 th grade Numbers and Operations in Base Ten. 5.Click: Recognize the value of digits in a multi-digit number lines and base ten blocks. 6.Click Determine the value of a digit in the thousandths place. 7.Review video. 8.Break into groups and using colored poster board a place value chart to create a place value number line that is large enough to post in common area of school for other students to view. 9.Make place value chart stretch from millions to decimal portion of thousandths. 10.Have assembly in which students from fifth grade will give a presentation of shifting numbers and place value patterns by positioning themselves under the large place value sign. Each student will hold a large card representing their number and shift accordingly to show patterns and changes that will occur. 11.Other classes will be able to view this event. This task uses: Learning Objective(s): 5.NBT.A.1 Recognize that in a multi-digit number a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.
