Review Last time we learned about figure drawing we also know how to use watercolors with: Salt, glue, straws, crayons, paper towels and washes.

Silhouette is the dark shape and outline of someone or something visible against a lighter background, especially in dim light. HInt answer to bellwork question #1

What are ways that you can show movement in art Talk about this bellwork question in groups write at least 3 ways down on the group whiteboard.

Kara Walker She is a contemporary artist- which means she is still alive today. Born in California Went to school at Harvard. Known for her silhouette drawings.

Her work explores slavery using a storybook style.

Some answers you might have Capture a person moving like a snapshot. Do a series where movement is shown from one slide to another action lines like a cartoon blur showing movement

Our watercolor silhouettes Show movement in your silhouette Make it based off of a pose Step 1: create a rough draft of a silhouette that shows movement (yoga class sketch but doesn’t have to be)

Step 2 Once you have found a silhouette you like sketch it onto watercolor paper You’re working on a silhouette you do not need the detail shown in this picture, but guidelines help.

Step 3 Create a watercolor background use any of the techniques we learned on the first day. -Show movement in your watercolor.

Reminder ● Brushes should never be left bristle down in the water. Set brushes on the table. ● Rinse off your brush before getting a new color.

Step 4 Use the black watercolor paint to create your silhouette drawing over your background Make sure your background is dry before you start this step.

Make sure your pictures relate 3 paintings total They look like they belong together both with color and images. Make sure your figures are 7.5- 8 heads high.

Yoga class- Expected Behaviour 8:30-8:45 We will take a paper and pencil with us to sketch the yoga class. Be quiet and respectful. Sit along the wall out of the way. We will only be there for 15 min so get a sketch you like. Show me you can handle this so we can get out of class more often

we will be doing a triptych: a series of 3 paintings show movement from one picture to the next chose colors that show feeling Make sure that in the end all three paintings feel like they belong together.

Next class - All three paintings due We will be learning more about movement. We will be working on this project today and next time.
