Abstracts provided basic facts and statistics. Business Organizations Directory Provides basic contact information. Labels major industry segments.

5 Profile – Resources Not Used Database(s)Reason Consumer Index Indexes Consumer Report articles that profile major chicken chains, but the data is from 1994. 7 Profile – Resources Used DatabaseUse Hoovers Company Capsule’s & Profiles Start with Hoovers to identify a list of competitors in the industry. You will need to know one company. Using multiple companies on this list in an ABI Inform or Business Source Premier article search will help you find articles on the industry. Company profiles also indicate rankings and market share relative to the industry. ABI Inform & Business Source Premier Identify major trends, recent merger and acquisitions activity, industry market size and company market shares and statistics. Wilson Select Plus, Business & Management and Wilson Business Abstracts Articles discuss changes in packaging method, litigation over a trademark, mergers & acquisitions, and rising ingredient costs. Most articles in this database focus on Ice Cream Stands. This is because a number of Restaurant trade magazines are indexed in these publications.

8 Profile – Resources Not Used DatabaseUse Sociological Collection and Psychology & Behavior Collection Both databases brought up articles on what draws consumers to ice cream. This information would be useful for trying to develop a marketing plan, but it was too much to put into the basic company profile. PAIS and Econlit Provides information on trade regulations and import restrictions, but most data is from before 1994. In Econlit, a case study on Unilever is listed. The abstract did not provide much information, but this would be a good resource for a patron looking for information on how the industry works. Consumer Index Useful for product review from Consumer Reports. Disclosure, Worldscope, and Business Organizations Directory While Disclosure & Worldscope are searchable by SIC code, the lists only included public companies and is not a complete list of industry participants.
