Rebirthing involves theacquiring of a legitimate Vehicle Identification Number (VIN),usually from a written-off vehicle, and applying that VIN to astolen vehicle of the same age, make and model. The stolenvehicle is subsequently re-registered and sold to an unsuspectingbuyer.

Also recordedis whether the vehicle is a statutory write-off, in which case it may not be re-registered, or a repairable write-off, inwhich case the vehicle may be repaired forre-registration.

Automotive Salvage Auctioneers Notifiable Vehicles Commercial in Confidence A vehicle is a notifiable vehicle if: a) the vehicle is written-off; andb) the vehicle is ADR compliant; andc) the vehicle was manufactured less than 15 years beforethe date the vehicle was written-off; andd) the vehicle is – (i) a motor vehicle; or(ii) a motorcycle; or(iii) a trailer; or(iv) a semi-trailer e) the vehicle has a mass rate for charging (MRC) of lessthan 4.5 tonnes.
