4 Punctuating Infinitives If the infinitive is used as an adverb and is the beginning phrase in a sentence, you should use a comma to set it off. 10 Infinitives Don’t confuse infinitives with prepositional phrases. Infinitives begin with the word to and a verb. Prepositional phrases can begin with the word to, but they are followed by a noun or pronoun and any modifiers. I want to go to the movies. What’s the infinitive? What’s the prepositional phrase?

31 Theme Other basic elements like setting, tone/mood, rising/falling action, climax, and resolution will develop as you revise your story, but please bear in mind that they have to be present. (Advice: copy that sentence to use as a quick checklist) If you have a character who is a true role model, then your story will, of course, have some sort of life lesson about what kind of person is worthy of admiration. What is the lesson you are communicating about what qualities are important in a person? Take 5 minutes to make revisions/notes to ensure there is a LESSON to be learned from your narative.
