5 Study: Evaluating Scholarship Applicants National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA) -2012 Survey of 300 members who collectively award more than $1 billion in scholarships annually. 75% reviewed an applicant’s online presence looking for one or more red flags. More than 50% review an applicant’s online presence to get to know the applicant better, to look for creativity and other positive personality traits or to evaluate “real life” communication skills 25% of scholarship providers evaluated online information to resolve conflicting information about qualifications 1/3 denied a scholarship and ¼ have granted a scholarship because of information they found about a candidate online
