2 Appendicitis Appendicitis is swelling or inflammation of the appendix. The appendix is a small pouch attached at the beginning of the large intestine. It occurs when the large intestine becomes blocked with feces, a foreign object, or (rarely) a tumor. Symptoms Include: – Pain in the right lower abdomen – Loss of appetite – Nausea – Vomiting – Fever

3 Appendicitis (continued) Treatments: – Appendectomy (removal of the appendix) Most common – Ct scan If the Ct scan shows that your appendix has ruptured and caused an infection, the infection will be treated and then the patient will have an appendectomy

4 cholecystitis Acute cholecystitis is a sudden inflammation of the gallbladder that causes severe abdominal pain. In most cases, acute cholecystitis is caused by gallstones in the gallbladder. Although it is rare, tumors can also be a cause of cholecystitis. Symptoms Sharp, cramping, or dull pain in the upper right side or middle of the abdomen Clay-colored stool Fever Nausea & vomiting Jaundice Treatment Cholecystectomy (if gallstones are present) Antibiotics to fight infection Low fat diets Pain medication Fluids administered through a vein (IV)

5 Cirrhos is Cirrhosis is a disease in which normal liver cells are replaced by scar tissue, which interferes with all of these important function's, in extreme cases, the damage is so severe that the only solution is a liver transplant. In its early stages, Cirrhosis often has no symptoms. However, as liver cells die, the organ makes less of the proteins that regulate fluid retention and blood clotting and loses its ability to metabolize the pigment bilirubin. Common Symptoms include: Fatigue Loss of appetite Nausea and vomiting Weakness Weight loss Fluid accumulation in the legs (edema) and abdomen (ascites) Increased bleeding and bruising Jaundice, a yellowing of the skin and eyes Itching Treatment for cirrhosis varies depending on the cause and stage of the disease. Because liver damage cannot be reversed, the aim of all treatment is to keep the disease from getting worse and to reduce complications.
