2 Community Service Community service is one of the Four Avenues of Service. Rotary clubs and Rotarians have a responsibility to find ways to improve the quality of life for those in their communities and to serve the public interest. EXIT

3 What is Community Service? Community Service responds to the needs of the local community by encouraging and fostering the ideal of service to the personal, business and community life of every Rotarian. It provides Rotarians with the opportunity to exemplify the Rotary motto: Service Above Self. EXIT

4 Community Service Projects Community service projects Are relevant to the community Serve as a learning experience for Rotarians Identify a Rotary club’s role in its community Determine how Rotarians can help with the resources at hand EXIT

5 Menu of Service Opportunities The RI Board of Directors encourages clubs and districts to consider the following nine community development areas when developing projects:community development areas Children at Risk Disabled Persons Health Care International Understanding and Goodwill Literacy and Numeracy Population Issues Poverty and Hunger Preserve Planet Earth Urban Concerns EXIT

6 District Structure The district Community Service chair coordinates and promotes club community service projects within the district. The chairdistrict Community Service chair Works with clubs Encourages district-wide participation Shares information and ideas with Rotarians in the district EXIT

7 Benefit from RI’s Structured Programs Consider how Community Service projects may benefit from the involvement of one of the RI Structured Programs: Interact Rotaract Rotary Community Corps Rotary Friendship Exchange Rotary Fellowships Rotary Volunteers Rotary Youth Leadership Awards World Community Service Youth Exchange EXIT
