Are there Apostles of Christ on Earth Today? Ephesians 4:11; 1 Corinthians 12:28; Matthew 16:18-19; 18:18; Luke 22:30

The definition of “apostle” The word “apostle” comes from the Greek word apostolos, which means “one sent from or forth, a messenger, delegate” Used in Two different senses: 1.Any individual sent to a accomplish a particular task (Acts 14:14; 13:2-4; 2 Corinthians 8:33; Hebrews 3:1) 2.An apostle of Jesus Christ, selected by Him as one of His original representatives or ambassadors (2 Cor. 5:20; Matthew 10:1-5; Acts 1:16-26; 9:15; 22:14-15; 26:16- 18; 1 Corinthians 15:8-9; Galatians 1:11-12,15-16)

The Qualifications Of Apostles Of Christ Had to have seen the Lord and been an eyewitness of Christ’s resurrection (Acts 1:22; 22:14-15; 26:16-17; 1 Corinthians 9:1). Had to have been Divinely selected (Matthew 10:1-5; Acts 1:16-26; 9:15) Had to have been endued with miraculous power (Mark 3:15; 16:17-20; Luke 9:1-2; John 14:12, 26; 15:24-27; 16:13; Acts 2:43; 4:29-31,33; 5:12,15-16; 6:6; 8:14-18; 19:6; 2 Timothy 1:6; Romans 1:11; Heb. 2:3-4)

The Work of an Apostle of Christ Spread the gospel of salvation to the whole world (Matthew 28:16-20; Mark 16:14-16; Luke 24:46-48) Reveal God’s truth and His will for His people for all time (John 16:13; 1 Corinthians 14:37; 1 Thess. 5:27; 2 Thess. 2:15; 3:14; 2 Peter 1:12-15; 3:15-16) These works form the core of the apostle’s God-given responsibilities and establish their position of authority in the church (Matthew 16:18; 18:18-20; Ephesians 2:20; Revelation 21:14; 1 Corinthians 12:28; Acts 6:2-4)

There are no apostles of Christ on earth today because the Original Apostles Were Sufficient Once a foundation is laid, you don’t lay it again. No person living today can meet the qualifications given in Scripture for being an apostle. No one today has been an eyewitness of Christ’s resurrection. Christ has selected no one living today for the apostolic role. No one living today has the miraculous abilities of an apostle. We should not be surprised that people would falsely claim to be apostles (2 Cor. 11:13-15; Rev. 2:2)
