4 2013-12-10Alessandro Saputi EN/CV/PJ Introduction to CERN CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is an intergovernmental organization with 20 Member States. CERN’s mission is to enable international collaboration in the field of high-energy particle physics research and to this end it designs, builds and operates particle accelerators and the associated experimental areas.

5 2013-12-10Alessandro Saputi EN/CV/PJ The Engineering Department provides CERN with the Engineering Competences, Infrastructure Systems and Technical Coordination required for the design, installation, operation, maintenance and dismantling phases of the CERN accelerator complex and its experimental facilities. Introduction to CERN and EN-CV group EN-CV Group Cooling & Ventilation The mandate of the CV group concerns the consolidation, operation and maintenance of the cooling systems, pumping stations, air conditioning installations and fluid distribution systems for the PS, SPS and LHC, The CV group is in charge of consolidation and projects from market survey to commissioning stages. The CV group also has the responsibility of the LHC Experiments specific cooling equipment and the development of future prototypes and their production.

6 2013-12-10Alessandro Saputi EN/CV/PJ The NA62 experiment is a new particle physics experiment in preparation in the North Area of the SPS accelerator at CERN. It aims to start physics with data taking in 2014. It will become the first experiment in the world to probe the decays of the charged kaon with probabilities down to 10 −12. The experiment is focused on precision testing of the Standard Model by studies of rare decays of charged kaons. Introduction to the Na62 Experiment

7 2013-12-10Alessandro Saputi EN/CV/PJ The Gigatracker is a spectrometer that provides precise measurements of momentum, time and angle of the incoming 75 GeV/c kaon beam. The Gigatracker will be placed in a vacuum, in order to minimize the interaction of beam particles with air. It shall be operated at a temperature of -25 degree Celsius to reduce radiation-induced performance degradation. Introduction to the Na62 Gigatracker
