Adding Value in Mathematics CPD partnerships between schools, colleges & HEIs Manchester, December 2008 over 200 delegates Worked in partnership with MoreMathsGrads, University of Manchester, Mathematics Department Paul Glendinning was very stimulating. Workshops were useful for info gathering and networking. Plenary was lively and interesting for final slot All excellent. Peter McOwen's talk - fantastic. Open talk very interesting. Lots of fascinating and useful ideas to investigate and think about One Message I remember Subliminal messages and cues can shape learners’ views of about mathematics, often negatively, at a very early stage – if the maths part of the primary school day is introduced with a sigh and ‘Ok, now, we’re going to do mathematics’, the message that maths is hard, or boring, is conveyed, rather than a sense of excitement.

AND I REALLY DO. I can see we do lots of things really well, and the session gave me a great model to scaffold my Key Stage meeting tomorrow which will hopefully boost the rest of the team into feeling like we are achieving highly! An excellent event.
